On a lighter note!

From an e-mail I got this morning from a gal I used to work with:

"The first testicular guard (Cup) was used in baseball in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1934.

It took 60 years for men to realize that the brain is also important! "

About right!

May the rest of the week be kind to each of you!

Tomorrrow we (hopefully) get Dottie in to see the surgeon; Friday I'll be in Lawrence swapping out the vacuum advance in the distributor of my nephew's Galaxie (kicking his gas mileage up about 40%). The weekend may or may not be filled with grandkids, so if I'm not around know I'm thinking of each of you!

I saw a similar "fact" on NHL forums recently. I still think there's a bit of truth to it! It's alarming to modern eyes to see all that grainy black and white footage of men playing various sports without helmets that really should be played with, and you know that lesson was learned the hard way! And then you think, "Hmmm, my great-uncle *did* play high school football and race on the dirt tracks at that time, so maybe that's why he tried to fight my ex-boyfriend and thought it was okay for my brother to play with firecrackers when he was three."

Okay, so that may not be *your* thought. ;-)

I hope hope hope that Dottie's surgery goes well and puts her feet on the road to wellness, and I hope you have a great weekend, with or without grandkids! I don't have to say "hope" about the Galaxie; I know you'll do an awesome job on that.

Lol -It's amazing what you learn on the internet, isn't it?

Hope all goes well for Dottie. I know you'll love playing around with the Galaxie's insides. Have a good weekend

That story reminds me of an incident related by Michael Longley in a poem...

The Choughs

As they ride the air currents at Six Noggins,
Rolling and soaring above the cliff face
And spreading their wing tips out like fingers,
The choughs’ red claws recall my father

Telling me how the raw recruits would clutch
Their ‘courting tackle’ under heavy fire:
Choughs at play are the souls of young soldiers
Lifting their testicles into the sky.

Love and good positive thoughts to Dottie. Glad to see you have funny lighthearted friends to send you smiles through hard times.

After I read this to him, MrZ said, "Yeah." He made a funny face, said "yeah" again, then said "I should point out that the brain is already better protected naturally."

Best wishes for Dottie and you. Hang tough, Alan.

Good vibes to Dolly, she doesn't even realize how many are praying for her.

It took longer in cricket. Looking at batsmen facing fast bowlers wearing just a cloth cap in the 80's. I guess you just learnt to wove out the way that little bit faster.
