Roses and that tree again!

Back in 1953, the spring after they moved in, Mom planted a climbing rose at the corner of the house. When we moved in in 1978 it wasn't doing too well, but each year it gets a bit better. It's just now starting to flower out; this photo is from 2 years ago when I first got the Nikon and hadn't learned yet about using a polarizing filter to shoot flowers, or shading them to hold all the highlights.

Yesterday when I got home from the gym the sun was finally out for the first time in a week, so I grabbed the camera and walked across the street. Hopefully this holds enough detail you can see all the flowers if you click on it for the large version.

Off to the gym, it's leg day!

Wow, what a beautiful tree. I'm glad that it wasn't the one that blew down on your house during the winter.

Actually, that is the tree that dropped the limb; it was the side towards the house, about 1/3 of the way up. From that angle it looks fairly "full" but the side over the driveway doesn't have nearly the branches, so from straight on it looks rather lopsided, lol!

I have worried about how tall it's gotten and having it come down; I don't know if it would survive "topping" or not. If it would make it "fill out" again I'd do it, but if it will kill it I just can't...

The rose photo is lovely. I can't grow anything so I am especially impressed.

Lovely photographs, alan. That tree is huge, it reminds me of the one that we had in the front of our house in Santa Cruz. It eventually split and dropped a huge part of itself into the street. We had to have it topped.

ah, the finer points of photographing flowers. I just took a nice one of a passion flower -- might post it today. I did manage to see the flowers on the tree in your across-the-street shot. Hope you can save it and have it do what you want, it's a nice one.
