Waking up to snow...

again, just a bit this time. Enough to make things look nice in a world that isn't always.

Last week NPR's Bagdad correspondent did a long interview with a Sunni man who lived in a Shiite neighborhood. The militia had driven out most of the Sunni and were trying to force him to leave, but he told them he had nowhere to go. Apparently as all of the "new deal" was announced, he had been visited by the militia commander and told that he didn't have to leave, that they weren't going to operate that way anymore, and that they were even going to ask the people who had been forced out to return.

I thought perhaps, finally, there is a glimmer of hope!

Last night they announced that the man had been executed on Monday by militia...

I heard that story too Alan. I had not heard about the man's fate at the hands of the militia though. How terribly sad, but not at all surprising. Perhaps we can hope that something will come of his death and the Sunni's will move back to their homes. I cannot imagine the courage it took for that man to stay and fight for his home.

When I read what the commander said I knew how it would end. So sad and such strength the Sunni had. I am not sure I would have that kind of courage.

The rend my heart felt when they announced that makes me realize even more so how hopeless it must feel being there...

I had not heard of this story until now. Here we are a world away, and my heart breaks for a man I did not know. How sad that this is how people are forced to live and die. A tragedy.
