In my humble opinion...

Every clueless prick who voted against raising the minimum wage today should have to live on it for a year!

With no food stamps and no health benefits!

It would be an education for some, that's for sure.

I would agree with your humble opinion. Those pricks who are in congress don't have clue what it is like to struggle.

I have a friend, who has 2 master degrees, who is a single parent, and they are about to foreclose on her house. What is wrong with this picture, she is educated, ok a teacher, but still.....

Life can be rough but those who have the cash just don't get it......

Love ya,

Sigh.

I hadn't heard.

There's a kind of hard work some people will never, ever understand.

I agree with you fully Alan, here in BC, our government decided to create a two tier system for minimum wage. If you have job experience, you get paid $9.00/hr, which is really not much here in Canada. If you are new to the work force, you get paid $6.00/hr until you have worked at least 300 hours on the job. So what do employers do now? Hire a teen until they get close to the 300 hours and then lay them off.

When voted into congress or the senate you're guaranteed your salary for life plus insurance coverage & benefits for life that no one else on earth could ever afford.

What do they care how low the amount of minimum wage?

Wow Paul 9 bucks an hour. That's pretty good. Here in Ontario the general minimum wage is $7.75. Students get $7.25 and liquor servers get $6.75. Each rate is scheduled to rise by 25 cents in Feb 2007.

You guys in BC have it good. At 9 bucks an hour you can afford to chop up some weiners into your Kraft Dinner!

Can't help but think of yesterday's news item about the surge in luxury home sales. http://tinyurl.com/lrx5s
Housing prices in just about every major Canadian city is going up - not just luxury homes. Nobody seems to be concerned about where the 7 and 9 dollar an hour workers are going to live.

No kidding. I'd pay to see them do that.

I totally agree. I did see a little hand-written sign in my local breakfast joint though, that explained that increasing the minimum would drive them out of business, since the proposed increase was so big. They said something incremental would be much better. Got me to thinking. Yes, I guess everything has two sides, but I just can't imagine trying to exist on minimum!

It was supposed to be incremental, spread out until 2009...

I like that reality TV idea!

A bit late here, but:

If they're making minimum wage and working full-time they probably make too much for food stamps anyway.
